The economic elation of the 1990s in the city of Porto left behind a series of small shopping arcades, spread throughout town with no consideration. Some a stone’s throw away of the other, bright and dark but with no light. Semiabandoned, limboing in between motion and stillness, with no less than five stores, two restaurants and three offices. Left me wondering if, the syndrome that has become a complex unto itself should be called: “Complexo de Galeria, Síndrome Comercial” (Nuno Veloso Pires)
This photo publication seeks to convey the precarity and dullness of boom and bust urban development. The book looks like a ghostly object that could have been found in an abandoned mall.
